Val's Burgers in Hayward is a Bay Area classic diner since 1958. They have kept the original interior to preserve a truly vintage atmosphere. The food joint doesn't even have a website confirming its famous reputation and good ol' fashion word of mouth advertisement.
Their signature is a timeless American combo, a burger and a milkshake. There are three patty sizes, Papa (1 pound), Mama (1/2 pound) and Baby (1/3 pound). Your beef will be cooked to perfection with juices intact. It can honestly be eaten plain or with minimal toppings (burgers come with lettuce and other condiments are on the table, additional charges for cheese, bacon and tomato) so you can fully taste the flavorful patty. It's compared to your Dad's summer BBQ burger x2.
They also have a wide variety of milkshake flavors from cookies n cream to mint. I was debating on ordering one, but everyone in the fully packed diner had a milkshake with their meal so it was a must. It was honestly the best milkshake I ever had. The texture was perfectly smooth where it will won't be difficult to slurp through your straw, yet it was not liquidity.
If you're looking for a quality nostalgic burger and 1950s experience, Val's is your spot. Regardless, if you're a Bay local, you have to try a Val burger. Small parking lot and cash only.
